Glenfield Hospital, which is part of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, has received accreditation from National Certification Programme for Cardiac Rehabilitation for its cardiac rehabilitation team.
Glenfield Hospital was built in the 1980s. It is a teaching hospital, and is nationally recognised for heart disease, lung cancer and breast care.
The Trust has said that the recognition “demonstrates the team’s commitment to providing a quality service to patients”.
The assessment programme is a joint project between the British Association Cardiovascular Prevention & Rehabilitation (BACPR) and the NHS England National Audit of Cardiac Rehabilitation (NACR). It has seven key performance indicators, which include ensuring that cardiac rehabilitation is offered to all relevant priority groups, adhering to national averages for assessment and wait times, and having at least three health professions in the cardiac rehabilitation team to support patients.
Gemma Lewis, Partner at MDS and Specialist Medical Negligence Solicitor, said “it is encouraging to see that Glenfield Hospital has been recognised for the hard work done to improve its cardiac service. This will benefit patients now and will hopefully continue far into the future”.
