Maternity Conference – Leicester We were delighted to sponsor the All-Events Maternity Conference at the National Space Centre in Leicester on 22 January 2025.

The conference provided valuable opportunities to listen to interesting talks from a number of experts discussing key topics including:

  • Pre-eclampsia - Prof. Ed Johnstone from the University of Manchester talked about the very clear criteria that should be followed to diagnose the condition.
  • Gestational diabetes - Dr Teresa Kelly spoke about the management of the condition for mum and for baby.
  • Caesarean-Sections - Dr Joanna Gillham considered the impact of delays in performing a c-section, failing to recognise the need, and surgical mistakes.
  • Midwives - Bryany Tweedale, a Midwife who works with Bush & Co, gave an insightful talk about birth choices and high-risk pregnancies.
  • Supporting women recovering from trauma associated with baby loss or childbirth – we heard that after having their baby, a third of women will describe having suffered a traumatic labour. Of those women, many will experience symptoms of a sensory nature, which remind them of the traumatic delivery.

We have seen how families have been affected when there have been failures in delivering safe maternity care to mum and / or baby. We were proud to support this event and to share knowledge and collaborate with other professionals who all have the common goal of improving maternity outcomes.
