MDS are extremely excited to be the headline sponsor of a football charity event taking place on Sunday 30th August 2026 in aid of the charity Tommy's. The event takes place at Blaby & Whetstone Social Club, Leicester, LE8 6LW with arrivals allowed from 10.30am. There will be a women’s football match at 11am followed by the men’s at 1pm. There will also be a raffle with fantastic prizes and fun for all the family including a bouncy castle and BBQ.

All proceeds go to Tommy's.

The event has been organised by a local dad and his wife who are passionate about raising money for and supporting Tommy's after using their services sadly following several miscarriages.

Who are Tommy's?

Tommy's is the largest UK charity researching the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications, miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

So many families are sadly left with no or little answers after suffering baby loss.

Tommy's have undertaken vital research into pre-eclampsia and premature birth, stillbirths and the role of the placenta in pregnancy, and how diabetes and obesity can affect pregnancy and miscarriage. In 2024 they opened Tommy’s National Centre for Preterm Birth Research which is dedicated to researching the causes and prevention of premature birth.

As well as research, Tommy's also run a pregnancy line where women and families can speak directly to midwives to address their concerns. They also offer practical support and guidance for pregnant women and their families or after baby loss.

Why is this important?

Every year in the UK there are 200,000 miscarriages, 1900 neonatal deaths, 2866 stillborn babies and 53,000 babies born prematurely and half of UK adults have either experienced baby loss or know someone who has.

Baby loss can have profound consequences and effects on women, fathers and their families especially when they have been given little or no answers as to why it happened.

Many losses may also be preventable if there had been better research and understanding of the cause of the loss and if treatment had been offered.

Tommy’s vision to change this is to stop the heartbreak and devastation of baby loss and make pregnancy and birth safe for everyone by understanding the causes of early birth.

How can you get involved?

Tommy's need vital funds to support their life-changing work so you can help by fundraising for them. Some ideas include:

  • Adrenaline challenges such as skydiving.
  • Tea for Tommy’s – host a tea party.
  • Host a quiz.
  • Fundraise through sport or at school or work.
  • Fundraise at a celebration eg an anniversary.
  • Rainbow Quest – a fun activity to find all the colours of the rainbow.

If you wish to get involved, you can do so by clicking here or you can donate here.

Kirsty Dakin, Senior Solicitor says ‘We are delighted to be sponsoring and supporting the Tommy's charity football event again this August to raise vital funds for this fantastic charity. Having supported women and their families after baby loss to obtain answers about what happened I know how important Tommy’s work is. It will be another fantastic event.’
