Mehmooda Duke, is the Founder and Chair of Moosa-Duke Solicitors, set up in 2003.  She was High Sheriff of Leicestershire from March 2022 to March 2023 and has now returned to her role as Chair or the firm.

Mehmooda has over 30 years of experience in dealing with medical negligence claims. The first 10 years of her medical negligence career were spent defending the NHS and GPs, therefore, Mehmooda has an invaluable and unique insight into how claims are defended by the NHS and GPs.  

After graduating from Cambridge, Mehmooda started her career as a schoolteacher.  After a year, she retrained as a lawyer and started her legal career in London in 1992.

Mehmooda trained at defendant firm Hempsons Solicitors,moved to Capsticks Solicitors and was headhunted by Browne Jacobson LLP, all leading firms who defend the NHS.

Mehmooda was also head of the Legal Department at a large hospital Trust for 2 years and spent a year representing GPs covered by the Medical Defence Union.

Mehmooda has extensive experience in dealing with medical negligence claims. She specialises in Cauda Equina claims and has secured multiple multi-million-pound settlements in cases where there has been a misdiagnosis.

In her spare time, Mehmooda loves to hike in the Peak district and the Lake district, has climbed Kilimanjaro and has raised over£100,000 for charity over the years.

Mehmooda’s other roles have included being a Deputy Lieutenant, Chairman of the Leicestershire County Cricket Club and she is currently a Trustee of the MCC Foundation and Ambassador for Healing Little Hearts.
