Men’s Health Week is Monday 9 June 2025 until Sunday 15 June 2025, which aims to raise awareness of men’s health.
Unfortunately, as medical negligence solicitors we have seen claims concerning treatment that men have received which has gone wrong due to negligence. As specialist lawyers in medical negligence, we support people who have been harmed due to substandard care. We can help you get answers about what happened to you, and if your case is successful, we will negotiate a fair settlement, so that you can start to move on with your life.
What do you need to know about Men’s Health Negligence?
Medical negligence claims concerning men’s health can take many forms, but some types of negligence are specific to men as well as people who have been assigned male at birth.
Common examples of men’s health negligence that can affect men or people assigned male at birth are: -
- Prostate, Testicular, cancer and other urological conditions.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the UK, and even though there have been advancements in the detection and treatment of cancer, delays in diagnosis and mismanagement of the condition can still take place. Similarly, with testicular cancer.
A delay in the diagnosis of prostate or testicular cancer can mean that the cancer can spread to other parts of the body, meaning more intensive treatment and possibly an effect on your life expectancy. You can read here how we assisted a client when there was a delay in the diagnosis of prostate cancer after a high PSA test was not referred to the specialist at the appropriate time.
- Dealy in diagnosis or mistreatment of cardiovascular disease
Men are more likely than women to develop cardiovascular disease, which can present as coronary heart disease (including angina, heart attacks and heart failure), strokes and TIAs (mini-strokes), peripheral arterial disease (blockages to arteries in the limbs), and aortic disease.
A failure to appreciate the symptoms and initiate treatment can result in severe disability if a stroke or a cardiac event takes place.
It is also important to be aware of the risk factors that you may have, as exercising regularly as well as maintaining a healthy weight can reduce your risk. Stopping smoking, cutting back on alcohol as well as maintaining a healthy diet can also reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease. If you are over the age of 40, you can also request a Health Check test from your GP practice to help assess your risks which can help identify if you are at risk of cardiovascular disease among other possible diseases.
You can find out more about events for Men’s Health Week at the following links regarding prostate cancer as well as mental health. If you are concerned about any persistent or worrying symptoms, please speak to your GP, as they are best placed to know and advise whether any symptoms require further investigation.
